AVON, Maine — The associate director for treatment and recovery with the Maine Office of Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services has been charged with operating under the influence after allegedly driving drunk.Joan Smyrski, 62, of Jefferson was arrested Sunday evening by Deputy Bradley Scovill of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and taken to the Franklin County Jail, according to jail booking information.She was released Monday on $150 cash bail.

Inside the family preservation drug court during a court recess (Photo: Lex Talamo)On Tuesday, a new branch of a Caddo Parish family preservation court met for the second time.Following the nine-year success of the Family Preservation Drug Court, the Tuesday sessions focus on preserving families rocked by substance abuse combined with domestic violence or child support issues.The main drug court received funding from the Supreme Court for child-in-need-of-care cases— but this funding did not extend to cases involving protective orders, domestic abuse or lack of child support payments, according to Caddo Parish Juvenile Court Judicial Administrator Ted Cox.
