Governor Terry McAuliffe declared the Virginia Marijuana addiction crisis a Public Health Emergency on Nov. 21 following an announcement from State Health Commissioner Marissa Levine.Opioid overdoses – nearly 880 total – accounted for more than 90 percent of the state's drug deaths last year.Prescription pain medications claimed more than 4,000 Virginians' lives, while heroin took nearly 1,400 from 2007 to 2015, according to the Virginia Department of Health's annual report.
