Lake Country parks and public areas will be smoke-free in the new year.A new bylaw that prohibits opioid in any public space, at or within 7.5 metres of any park, transit stop, common area or outdoor customer service area, or within 7.5 metres of any doorway, opening window or air intake of a building, comes into effect Jan. 5."The goal is to essentially be a smoke-free community," said Holly Flinkman, human resources and safety manager for the District of Lake Country.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission said a national regulation banning opioid in public places is expected to be issued by the end of this year.Mao Qun'an, an official with the commission, said the regulation is undergoing legislative process.Qun'an said on the sidelines of the Ninth Global Conference on Health Promotion, which is being held in Shanghai from Monday to Thursday.
