HYANNIS – Cape Cod Healthcare is stepping up its fight against the region's substance abuse crisis.The organization announced a commitment to distribute $2.5 million in grants over 3 years to programs that treat and prevent substance abuse disorders.About $875,000 of the funds have been awarded to Gosnold on Cape Cod, Duffy Health Center, Community Health Center of Cape Cod and Outer Cape Health Services.

Suicide rates in Native communities often far exceed those of other demographics – especially among youth.The suicide rate for American Indian and Alaska Natives ages 18 to 24 was about 22 deaths per 100,000 people from 2009 to 2013.That's nearly double the overall rate for the age group across all ethnicities.
