Community Health Center Receives Grant to Expand Substance Abuse Programs
FALMOUTH – Community Health Center of Cape Cod has received a $10,000 grant to expand its substance abuse treatment programming. Community Health Center of Cape Cod operates at locations in Falmouth, Mashpee and Bourne. The center currently treats more than 5,500 substance abuse visits each year with a goal of providing care for more than 9,000 visits. Community Health Center was one of five non-profits to receive a total of $48,500 in strategic grants from the Cape Cod Foundation to provide preservation, health, employment and educational services. Other recipients include the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, Duffy Health Center, Lower Cape Outreach Council and Mass Audubon Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary & the Sanctuaries of the Mid and Upper Cape.

Stopping Substance Abuse Before It Starts - Story

– More than 70 community leaders from Stone and Taney Counties are working together, some for the first time, to improve substance abuse prevention in the Ozarks. Mahoney hopes in time, the new approach to drug prevention can be used in other rural areas of the state. "Drug addiction and drug abuse runs a terrible cycle," Dobbins says. Branson Police Chief, Stan Dobbins, who was among those at the collection of community leaders earlier this month, believes education will have to play a large role. The Skaggs Foundation and Cox Medical Center Branson has also hired a drug prevention expert from Pennsylvania to conduct a community assessment and submit evidence-based ideas to improve drug prevention.
