Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – South Carolina state representatives have filed several bills aimed at addressing South Carolina's opioid and heroin problem. More information on the proposed legislation is below: They say opioids and heroin is a major epidemic across the state. Reps. Eric Bedingfield, Russell Fry, Phyllis Henderson, and Chip Huggins say the new bills focus on many aspects and are looking at what other states have successfully done to combat the problem. The proposed legislation hopes to provide immunity for reporting drug and alcohol-related overdoses, mandate prescribers use the prescription drug monitoring program, require mandatory coursework in higher education for healthcare professionals, start controlled substance take back programs, and require DHEC to provide prescription report cards.
