NFL safety Matt Elam was arrested in Florida and faces multiple drug charges as he was reportedly in possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell or deliver, according to the Baltimore Sun. Elam, 25, was pulled over by police, who then searched his car and found 126 grams of marijuana and three grams of oxycodone. Elam has previously served a one game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse police. Other charges include possession of a controlled substance and reckless driving.

A native of West Palm Beach, just outside of Miami, Elam had an All-American career at Florida before leaving after his junior year to enter the NFL Draft. "Detectives detected a strong odor of fresh/burning marijuana and a big cloud of smoke emitting from inside the vehicle," Miami Beach police wrote. His time with the team likely already over, Ravens safety Matt Elam put an ignominious exclamation point on a tenure that will have him remembered as one of the worst draft picks in franchise history. The Ravens said that Elam self-reported the issue and it stemmed from an incident during his first NFL season.

The Ravens did not pick up Elam's fifth-year option, so he becomes a free agent next month. Police say they initially pulled Elam over for reckless driving and found 126 grams of marijuana and three grams of oxycodone in his vehicle. According to Miami-Dade police records, Elam was booked at 3:45 a.m. today on charges of possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, possession of cannabis with the intent to sell or deliver, and possession of a controlled substance.
