Today, the most commonly prescribed opioid drugs include fentanyl, codeine, hydrocodone, methadone, oxymorphone, meperidine, and oxycodone. The odds of addiction go higher in patients who were put on a 30-day supply of opioid painkillers. Opioid painkillers work by binding to the opioid receptors in the body - for example, in the brain and spinal cord - and inhibiting the pain signals.


Medical Marijuana Advocates Believe it Could Be Used to Treat Opioid Addiction

Under Ohio's new law, medical marijuana isn't approved for that purpose; Gould thinks it should be. "What they are doing is they are introducing a drug that is a natural plant that will definitely deal with those symptoms. Ohio leads the nation in overdose deaths from opioids.

Opioid Addiction Is Infiltrating A Majority Of US Workplaces
A survey recently released by the National Safety Council reveals more than 70 percent of workplaces are feeling the negative effects of Marijuana abuse. 5537603A disturbing majority of businesses in the U.S. are being negatively impacted by prescription painkiller abuse and addiction among employees. Despite the problems opioid abuse is causing in the workplace, many employee drug tests do not look for the substance. Experts say that current opioid and heroin abuse is driven in large part by the over-prescribing of pain pills from doctors. Addicts may begin with a dependence on opioid pills before transitioning to heroin after building up a tolerance that makes pills too expensive.
