Scientists just ranked 9 recreational drugs from safest to most dangerous stat : ScienceAlert

A new Global addiction Survey (GDS) covering hundreds of thousands of people around the world has ranked recreational drugs from the safest to the most dangerous, based on how many hospital admissions they lead to. You can read a summary of the report on the Global Drug Survey website. Since 1999, the Global Drug Survey has been aiming to "make drug use safer regardless of the legal status", which means keeping drug users, healthcare professionals, and policy makers informed about the potential effects of these substances. If you're going to take one of these drugs, it's vital that you know what you're letting yourself in for - there's no room for complacency, says the GDS team, even with relatively safe recreational drugs. Global Drug Survey"Combined use [of mushrooms] with alcohol and use within risky or unfamiliar settings increase the risks of harm," the founder of the Global Drug Survey, addiction psychiatrist Adam Winstock, told Olivia Solon at The Guardian.

In addition, like any drug, magic mushrooms can come with risks, including intense feelings of panic and anxiety that can accompany a psychedelic experience or "trip." Nevertheless, experts say this is one of the reasons magic mushrooms aren't nearly as dangerous as other recreational drugs - this type of experience is not one they'd likely be driven to repeat, making it unlikely to be addictive. And as far as shrooms' safety profile generally, said Nutt, "We know it's a safe drug; probably tens of millions of people have used it. Still, a growing body of scientific research does suggest that magic mushrooms are safe and, more importantly, that they could have therapeutic uses for people struggling with mental illness. Ask a healthy person who's tripped on magic mushrooms what it felt like, and they'll probably tell you they saw sounds or heard colors: The crash-bang of a dropped box took on an aggressive, dark shape.

Magic mushrooms are the safest recreational drug, study says

There's new evidence that magic mushrooms could be among the safest recreational drugs
A new survey found that when it comes to recreational addiction use, magic mushrooms appear to be the safest drug. The report found that people in Colombia, New Zealand, Norway and Mexico were most likely to find and pick magic mushrooms themselves. Just weeks ago, a tourist died after jumping from a fifth-floor balcony after consuming orange juice laced with magic mushrooms, the Tribun Bali reported. Magic mushrooms can be risky and cause panic attacks or confusion, Adam Winstock, a consultant addiction psychiatrist and founder of the Global Drug Survey told the Guardian.
