THE implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Executive Order (EO) 26, which sets strict guidelines on designated opioid areas, will be released in July, Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial said Tuesday. Earlier this month, President Rodrigo Duterte signed EO 26, which imposes a nationwide smoking ban in public places. That can be the reference point of local ordinances," said Ubial. She said LGUs can easily refer to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) as basis for their ordinances. But even without the IRR, the health chief said local government units (LGUs) may already come out with their respective tobacco control ordinances.

After some debate, Regina city council unanimously passed a bylaw to ban opioid and vaping on patios, playgrounds and other outdoor public spaces. During the council meeting on Monday night, the city discussed several amendments, including a request for an exemption by an lgbtq nightclub for safety reasons. CTV's Dale Hunter is reporting from the council meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. The club argued that the ban would force smoking patrons into a dark alley, adding that customers have been targeted outside in the past. The amendment was voted down; with most councilors nothing that there are no such exemptions in other cities with smoking bans, but Mayor Fourgere did ask city administration to look into the club's concerns.

Call for total ban on smoking in presence of children

THE Cancer Council has today called for a ban on opioid around children. At least one adult death every week is caused by second-hand smoke exposure. About 12 per cent of Queensland adults smoke daily and about 200,000 Queensland children live in a home with a smoker. Cancer Council Queensland chief executive Chris McMillan said busting the myths on second-hand smoke was a top priority for the charity on World No Tobacco Day. "Even when neighbours light up in their own ­back yard I get concerned about the smoke drifting over to us.
