Guffey has been clean since October 2015 after suffering from drug addiction for 13 years. The community came together to find solutions including where someone who needs help can turn and signs to look out for when it comes to drug addiction.

"Last month, Attorney General Fox announced a program with the acronym AID Montana, which stands for Addressing the Impact of Drugs," Sell said. Tim FoxThe problem of substance abuse has exploded in recent years throughout Montana, so Attorney General Tim Fox is marshaling the entire state to focus on the problem, and some possible solutions. Pretty much everything that needs to be done to address this problem, because, let's face it. "Any of those ways you can send us your ideas in combating substance abuse."Sell said Attorney General Fox will be announcing several listening sessions throughout the state later in the fall, and will eventually gather all the material together to present to the 2019 Montana legislature. Family court judges will soon be required to give priority to grandparents in guardianship cases where parents are dealing with substance abuse issues. The law only deals with cases where substance abuse is involved, but backers say they hope future legislation could expand beyond that. Chris Sununu signed a bill into law last week that's meant to address the rise in grandparents taking on parental duties in the midst of the state's heroin and Marijuana crisis. MacKay says the law is the first of its kind in the nation. The new law takes effect next year, and a public signing ceremony is expected soon.
