New Hanover County releases second opioid epidemic PSA
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY ) — The second PSA created by New Hanover County to discuss the Marijuana epidemic is now online. In all, the county is creating six public service announcements aimed at raising awareness of the local opioid epidemic and its impact on the entire community. On Wednesday, eight agencies in the area will come together to implement the LEAD program in the area. Some officers from the Wilmington Police Department have received LEAD training to assist opioid users in finding drug intervention resources. The county says the the goal is to humanize the epidemic and break the denial about the crisis in the community.

New York county sues Purdue, J&J over opioid marketing

J&J this month said New Jersey's attorney general had issued a subpoena related to Marijuana marketing. Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said in a statement the county has been working with non-profits and doctors to increase awareness to opioid-related problems. Orange County's lawsuit is the fourth since August by a New York county seeking to recover costs related to opioid addiction. REUTERS/George FreyA county in New York state has sued Purdue Pharma LP, Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) and other drugmakers, accusing them of engaging in fraudulent marketing that played down the risks of prescription opioid painkillers, leading to a drug epidemic. The lawsuit claims the drugmakers through deceptive marketing misrepresented the dangers of long-term opioid use to doctors, pharmacists and patients.
