Golf Digest : declared in PGA Tour announces significant changes to drug policy

The player doesn't win, the sponsors don't win, the tournament doesn't win, and the tour doesn't win."In many players' eyes, however, both changes are largely a win. CROMWELL, Conn. -- On Tuesday, the PGA Tour announced significant changes to its drug policy, saying that it will addblood testing beginning at the start of next season in October. It will also disclose if a player has been suspended for violating that policy for recreational drug use. Previously, the tour would only acknowledge if a player had been suspended for violating the anti-doping policy for performance enhancing drugs (see Barron, Doug, in 2009). Under the revised policy the tour is also adding to the banned list three categories that WADA already disallows -- asthma medications, allergy and anti-inflammatory medications, and pseudoephedrine over a certain threshold.

PGA Tour makes drug testing more stringent with blood tests starting in 2018

The PGA Tour is improving its anti-doping policy by adding blood testing next season. Blood testing will likely become the norm shortly thereafter. The policy will have a soft open in October of next year, per the AP, with much of the testing still coming through urine testing and only some of it coming through blood. This new policy brings the tour to WADA standards, and it is also a warning shot to players. The tour's policy has been controversially thin in the past, particularly amid scandals in other sports like cycling and baseball.

PGA Tour will start blood testing for PEDs and report all drug suspensions next season
The PGA Tour is beefing up its anti-doping policy by adding blood testing next season. The tour also is bringing its list of banned substances in line with the World Anti-Doping Association. The tour, however, still plans to use urine samples for most of its drug testing next season. Under the current policy, the tour is required to announce when a player has been suspended only for performance-enhancing drugs. Blood testing will allow the tour to detect any use of human growth hormone, which is on the list of banned substances but cannot be detected through urine.
