London Evening Standard : declared in Love Island beats Big Brother in reality TV ratings battle
Big Brother has suffered a fall in ratings as it struggles to keep up with reality TV rival Love Island. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2, while Big Brother continues at 10pm on Channel 5. The social experiment show only pulled in 690,000 viewers for its Sunday night show, while Love Island stormed ahead with 1.5 million. Despite coming out on top in the launch night ratings battle earlier this month, attracting 3 million viewers across its two-hour transmission to Love Island's 2.1 million, ITV2's dating show has since begun to outstrip Big Brother. According to The Sun, Sunday night's episode marked the sixth consecutive day that the Channel 5 show had failed to reach 1 million viewers.
The series made a limp start with the lowest ever ratings for a Big Brother launch – scoring just 1.3 million. Big Brother scored a moderate 690,000 viewers on Sunday night, a pale comparison to Love Island's huge audience of 1.5 million. Producers are now pulling out all the stops in a latest twist that will see housemates date new contestants, mimicking their rival show Love Island. Love Island is currently averaging at 1.3 million viewers per episode. Rylan Clark-Neal has announced that three new guests will be entering the Big Brother house on Tuesday and bosses will be hoping it brings a ratings resurgence.
