Some doctors fall within what Johns Hopkins specialists call "best practices range," averaging three to 10 opioid tablets after C-section. Too many Americans are leaving the hospital with bottles full of opioid tablets they don't need. Even more alarming, research shows that relapse rates after opioid addiction treatment could be as high as 91 percent.

Councilman blames opioid crisis after car is burglarized

The city councilman whose car was burglarized in front of his Staten Island home said Sunday he suspects that a druggie strung out on opioids committed the crime. "I guess when I brought my son in the night before I just didn't click [the car] locked. "It was an old phone, and luckily, I was able to wipe it remotely," Borelli said. He blamed the theft on the borough's drug crisis, which mirrors a deadly national trend, saying an addict likely saw this as a crime of opportunity. "It sucks," said Joseph Borelli, a Republican representing the south end of the borough.
