reality-based curriculum, peer outreach key for SFUSD drug abuse protection

A recent event at 1 of our schools has prompted me to share further data about the method our educators approach the important topic of drug abuse protection. Over the past ten years, the number of middle school students who tell they have ever used marijuana has dropped from less than 8 % to less than 4 %. Twenty-5 % of San Francisco Unified high school students tell they have tried marijuana. PEER OUTREACHOur high school counselors & hospital attendantchoose & train students to be guys Outreach Workers. These guys educators provide peer-to-peer teaching & outreach, make classroom presentations & develop public service announcements which address issues such as drug abuse.
