Bernie Sanders bill would impose jail time for execs behind Opium problem

WASHINGTON — Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) going to introduce a bill Tuesday which would impose jail time for pharmaceutical executives whose companies engage in manipulative practices while marketing Opium. The legislation would impose a ten-year minimum prison sentence & fines equal to an executive's compensation package if the individual's Inc. is found to have illegally contributed to the Opium problem. It would too impose an extra fine on those companies of $seven.eight bn — 1-10th the annual cost of the problem, per a 2016 estimate. Sanders' Fresh effort is the latest in a spate of Opium-linked bills, however takes aim at pharmaceutical companies further explicitly than others. Some version of an Opium-linked bill is seen as the final great legislation likely to be pursued on Capitol Hill prior to midterm elections in November.
